GOAL:
Can I copy the whole directory structure for Progress instead of installing Progress new?
FIX:
Sometimes customers seek to save time with installations and will instead copy an existing Progress installation onto another machine.
On UNIX platforms copying over the directory structure like this should work ok, as long as the following is borne in mind:
- the operating system platforms are the same;
- all the correct files have to be copied;
- if WebSpeed is being used, the Web Server script and Document Root directories are in the same location on the new machine as they are on the old.
- to change the serial numbers you will have to do an installation with the new serial numbers, however - into some spare space - and then copy the resulting progress.cfg and use that in the new location.
Progress Software does generally recommend a new installation, especially on Windows.
